WHO DOES YOUR ORGANIZATION SERVE?
ACGB provides a statewide specialist bereavement service for individuals, children and families who need assistance following the death of someone close to them. In addition, we provide a range of education, training, research and professional service options for those working in the area of grief and bereavement. We are the largest provider of grief and bereavement education in Australia.
WHAT IS THEIR BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
The aftermath of loss is grief. Grief, however, isn't just a one-size-fits-all problem. The solution becomes highly dependent on the kind of loss experienced and the character of the individual. Simply put, no two people experience grief in exactly the same way (which can make finding help that more cumbersome.)
Because the Australian Center for Grief & Bereavement is the largest provider of grief and bereavement education in Australia, we have to provide an array of solutions to a diverse population. Some of these solutions include: managing normal grief, managing anniversaries and special dates, dealing with the physical and emotional reactions of loss, planning the funeral, recognizing gender differences in grief, helping grieving children, addressing sexuality and grief, dealing with the consequences of bereavement, and finding support teams, self-help and community education.
HOW DO YOU HELP THEM?
Opportunities are available for those working with grieving people and for members of the community to attend seminars, workshops and courses, to undertake clinical work placements and receive supervision. Customized training, consultation and advice are also available to organizations on issues of grief and bereavement.
A range of specialist services and programs are provided including:
- Office based bereavement counseling
- Outreach counseling
- Regional specialist bereavement counsellors
- Support groups
- Written resource material and newsletters
- An annual ceremony of remembrance
- A bereavement information and referral service for the general public
- An advice and consultation service for workers in other settings.
