WHO DOES YOUR ORGANIZATION SERVE?
Twinless Twins Support Group exists to help twins who have lost their twin. We are an organization made up of twins who have lost their twin. Members at different stages in their bereavement listen to each other and reach out in the spirit of “healing by helping others.” We focus on healing and sharing our twinship with the belief that “once a twin, always a twin.” Hope can be renewed for the future.
WHAT IS THEIR BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
When we lose a twin, it feels for many of us like the literal end of our lives. That is true, in that it is the end of life as we have known it since the moment of our conception. As one twin explained to me: “The day my twin died, the lights went out.” Another twin said to me, “After Daphne died, it was as if I couldn’t breathe. I’d never in my life thought about breathing. I just took it for granted that Daphne and my breath were part of being alive.” When our twin dies, we must begin to breathe again; we must begin again with our lives, starting with what truly feels like the end.
HOW DO YOU HELP THEM?
We provide a safe and compassionate community for twinless twins to experience healing and understanding. We also provide support for twins and other multiples who have lost their twin due to death or estrangement at any age. We are a support group (peer to peer) not a therapy group therefore; we are unable to provide counseling or therapy of any kind. We also provide:
- Regional activities- Hope is a huge word. It is “the capacity to see through the darkness of this moment to the returning light of tomorrow”. As we gather together, remember this is a safe place where you can share your twin grief without fear of criticism or judgment. We are here to support and encourage you. If you have never attended our regional meeting, consider coming. You will leave knowing that you never walk alone.
- National conferences- Surrounded by the comfort and support of other twinless twins, you will discover new tools and new twin friends to help you on your healing journey. You will leave feeling renewed in spirit and more informed about twin loss and grief. You will finally feel that you are not alone. Twinless Twins and their supporters (spouses, significant others, family, and friends) are welcome.
- Educational resources- Knowledge can be power when it comes to navigating your way through grief and embracing your own personal journey. It is our hope that these pdf resources can be of benefit to you, a family member, friend, or a twinless twin in need.
