WHO DOES YOUR ORGANIZATION SERVE?
Cancer Research UK's main goal is to help fund scientists, doctors and nurses that are dedicated to beating cancer but we also provide a variety of cancer information to the public. Our efforts are focused in four key areas – working to help prevent cancer, diagnose it earlier, develop new treatments and optimize current treatments by personalizing them and making them even more effective.
WHAT IS THEIR BIGGEST CHALLENGE?
More people are being diagnosed with cancer than ever before. This is due to changing lifestyles and the fact that more people are living longer, reaching ages when cancer is more common. Though research supports that people can dramatically reduce their risk by not smoking, eating a healthy diet, drinking less alcohol, being physically active and limiting their exposure to the sun and tanning beds, actually making this happen is a huge challenge. To prevent more cancers, we need continued research, changes in legislation, awareness campaigns and empowering information to help change attitudes and behavior.
HOW DO YOU HELP THEM?
We beat cancer.
We’re the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. We’ve saved millions of lives by discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
We fund research into more than 200 types of cancer. From the most common – such as breast, bowel, lung and prostate cancers – to rare types of tumor and children’s cancers, we support groundbreaking science that benefits everyone.
We develop policies
Our policy department develops evidence-based policy to inform Government decisions related to cancer and research and communicates our views to key decision makers
